Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about transporting your vehicle with Auto Mover Australia.
How long does interstate vehicle transport take?
Transit times vary by route. Most interstate routes take 3–7 business days. Sydney ↔ Melbourne is typically 2–3 days, while cross-country routes like Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne ↔ Perth can take 7–21 business days. You'll receive an estimated delivery window when your booking is confirmed.
Is my vehicle insured during transport?
Yes. All vehicles transported by Auto Mover Australia are covered by our carrier's insurance during transit. We recommend documenting your vehicle's condition with photos before handover. You can upload vehicle photos directly when getting a quote.
What's the difference between Door-to-Door and Depot-to-Depot service?
With Door-to-Door, our driver collects your vehicle from your address and delivers it to the destination address — the most convenient option. Depot-to-Depot requires you to drop off and collect your vehicle at our depots, which is the most cost-effective option. We also offer mixed options (Door-to-Depot or Depot-to-Door).
Can I transport a non-running or damaged vehicle?
Yes, we can transport non-running vehicles. A non-running surcharge applies to cover the additional equipment and handling required. Please select 'No' under the 'Vehicle Running?' option when getting your quote so the correct price is calculated.
Can I leave personal items in my vehicle during transport?
We allow a small amount of personal items in the vehicle (up to 80kg), however a goods-in-vehicle fee applies. Items must be stored in the boot or back seat and should not obstruct the driver's view. We are not liable for personal belongings left in the vehicle.
How do I track my vehicle during transport?
Once your booking is confirmed, you'll have access to our Customer Portal where you can track your vehicle's status in real time — from assigned, collected, in transit, to delivered. You'll also receive SMS and email notifications at key milestones.
What do I need to prepare before vehicle pickup?
Ensure your vehicle has at least a quarter tank of fuel, remove all toll tags and parking passes, deactivate any alarm systems, and leave a spare key with the driver. Make sure the vehicle is accessible and someone is available at the pickup address on the scheduled date.
How is the transport price calculated?
Pricing is based on the transport route (origin and destination depots), vehicle category (Sedan/Hatch, SUV/4WD, or Van/Commercial/Ute), service type (door-to-door vs depot-to-depot), and additional factors like fuel levy, non-running surcharge, or goods-in-vehicle fee. All prices include GST.
What is the fuel levy and why is it applied?
The fuel levy is a variable surcharge that reflects current diesel fuel prices. It is automatically adjusted based on national fuel price indices and applied as a percentage of the base transport cost. The current fuel levy rate is displayed on your quote.
